The Central Bank of West African States (Bceao) has published its Monthly Statistics Bulletin
of June 2019.
In this document consulted by the Journal of the Senegalese economy (Lejecos), the issuing institute
informs that on the WAEMU interbank market, the average weekly volume of transactions,
all maturities combined, rose by 14.6% to 546.9 billion in June 2019.
“The weighted average rate for these operations was 4.26%, stable compared to the previous month. On the
one-week market, the average volume of transactions stood at 406.6 billion in June 2019, against
320.2 billion in May 2019.
The average interest rate on this counter stood at 4.22% during the period under review, against 4.05%
the previous month,” the document read.
According to the Bceao, the provisional data from the survey on banking conditions show
relative stability in lending interest rates during the month of June 2019.
Excluding charges and taxes, the average rate calculated at Union level fell from 6.99% in May 2019 to 7.02%
in June 2019. The average interest rate on customer deposits stood at 4.96% in June 2019,
against 4.80% recorded the previous month.
