GENEVA -- World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom
Ghebreyesus, said Wednesday that the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC) has become a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The statement
of the WHO Director-General was made following a meeting of the Health Regulations Emergency Committee
international concerning the Ebola virus disease in the DRC. "It's time for the whole world to take
knowledge and redouble their efforts. We must work together in solidarity with the DRC to
put an end to this epidemic and build a better health system," said the director general.
WHO, adding that "extraordinary" work has been done for almost a year in
difficult circumstances.
