A World Bank mission has been in Abidjan since June 17. It is present as part of the evaluation of the maturity of Côte d'Ivoire in terms of cybersecurity, initiated by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Post. This evaluation exercise, which will run until June 21, started on June 18 at the ministry's office, in the Postel 2001 building, in Plateau. It was officially launched by the ministry's chief of staff, Henri Djomand, on behalf of minister Claude Isaac Dé. It was in the presence of the main players in the cybersecurity sector and more broadly in the digital economy. These will be consulted during the evaluation.
The ultimate objective is to improve the security of the Ivorian cyberspace, "guarantee of the development of a strong economy, based on confidence in the use of digital technologies", according to Henri Djomand. According to him, the subject is topical, given the growing threats and ever-growing capabilities of cybercriminals around the world. “The fight against cybercrime is a permanent war that requires the availability of substantial human, organizational, technical and financial resources. This, in order to correct our vulnerabilities as much as possible and reduce the risks of cyberattack to a minimum in order to guarantee an optimal level of confidence for our fellow citizens in the use of digital technology, in this world which is only becoming more digital day by day. declared Henri Djomand.
In this regard, the Ivorian authorities believe that partnerships are essential. In particular with the best local and international structures and experts with the aim of increasing local skills and Côte d'Ivoire's combat capacities, but also prevention and detection. This assessment, said Henri Djomand, is done in collaboration with the World Bank and the Global Center for Cybersecurity Capacity Development at the University of Oxford. It will produce a report that will contain specific recommendations that will help the country achieve its target level of cybersecurity maturity.
An overview of the current capacities of the Ivorian system and the problems encountered will be made during the assessment, all of which will help the authorities to better orient the strategy towards the axes which will have the greatest impact in terms of the security of the national information systems and Ivorian cyberspace in general.
