Consumer prices fell 0.7% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the last three months of the previous year, the National Agency for Statistics and Demography said.

Consumer prices fell by 0.7% compared to the previous quarter, underlines in particular the structure in an analysis note of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

''This decrease follows that of the prices of local products, moderated by the increase in those of imported products'', indicates the report consulted by the APS.

This development, says the same source, is jointly explained by the decline in the prices of ''food and non-alcoholic beverages'', and that of ''health'' services.

In annual variation, consumer prices increased by 2.1%, according to ANSD.

It links this increase to the increase in the prices of “transport” services, “food and non-alcoholic beverages”, “restaurants and hotels” services and “goods and services various''.
