Africa World Airlines, AWA, officially launched its activities on Monday, February 10 in Abidjan. A year and a half, after the start of discussions with the local authorities.
With a fleet of 8 planes, 50 seats each, the Ghanaian company, operational since 2012, will now serve the Ivorian economic capital, its tenth destination after Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamalé, Wa, Lagos, Abuja, Monrovia and Freetown. .
“We are a low-cost company that wants to connect the entire African continent, from Accra. Through our presence on Ivorian soil, we especially want to bring together two neighboring countries, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, brotherly peoples, who despite the difference in languages, share the same cultures, the same values, "says Sean Mendis, Head of Operations at Africa World Airlines.

The inaugural flight is scheduled for February 14 to the Ghanaian capital. For its debut, AWA offers six flights per week and intends, very quickly, to increase to two flights per day. To do so, it intends to buy two other planes by the end of 2020.
In 2019, the company carried more than 600 thousand passengers, all in economy class, and recorded 16 thousand flights. It is even the leading air carrier in Ghana with more than 58% market share on local and West African destinations. And provides correspondence on international flights, in partnership with several other companies including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines.
