DAKAR, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- An Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Union
West African Economic and Monetary Conference ( UEMOA ) is to be held on Tuesday in Diamniadio, 30 km from Dakar, it was reported.

The presidents of Burkina Faso, Rock Marc Christian Kaboré, of Niger Mouhamadou Issoufou, of Côte
from Ivory Alassane Ouattara, from Togo Faure Gnassingbé, and from Benin Patrice Talon have already arrived in the
Senegalese capital.
According to a press release, the summit, which will be chaired by the President of Côte d'Ivoire, will examine the
mechanisms and strategies to deal with terrorist threats in member countries.
The last extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government took place on April 10
2017 in Abidjan. Last July, the Conference held its ordinary session also in Abidjan.
The Conference of Heads of State and Government is the supreme body which defines the main orientations of
Union policy. According to Article 17 of the Treaty, it meets at least once a year.
WAEMU groups together eight countries, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger,
Senegal and Togo.
