The International Monetary Fund (IMF) raised its growth forecast for sub-Saharan Africa to 3.8 percent for 2022 on Tuesday, April 19, up 0.1 percentage point from January.

In its latest World Economic Outlook report, the IMF raised its 2022 growth forecast for sub-Saharan Africa to 3.8 percent, despite inflationary risks. Like Niger, six other African countries are expected to grow by more than 6 percent this year.

Niger will record the highest economic growth on the African continent in 2022. With a forecast of 6.9 percent, the West African country's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow much faster than in 2021, when growth was estimated at 1.3 percent. This recovery is expected to be driven by the various projects underway in the country in the infrastructure and energy sectors.
