The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Sovereign Fund for Strategic Investments of Senegal (FONSIS) have launched a project to improvement of the housing supply in Senegal, at a total cost of more than 50 million dollars.
The press release published on the IFC website indicates that this initiative consists of acquiring 20,000 homes from developers, and making them available to Senegalese in a rental-purchase system. The ultimate goal is to help citizens who “find it difficult to save or borrow the funds needed to pay a deposit and buy their home” to own their own home.
The implementation of this project takes place within the framework of a fund called “Kajom Capital” set up by FONSIS. It will span the next 8 to 10 years. A contribution of 10 million dollars will be made by the IFC, in order to start the project. Then, the two partners aim to "mobilize and attract other national and international institutional investors" in order to collect the rest of the funds.
