The Supreme Court in Amsterdam, the Netherlands has finally ordered the shipping company Trafigura to compensate the victims of toxic waste in Côte d'Ivoire. This announcement was made by the president of the National Union of Associations of Toxic Waste Victims of Côte d'Ivoire (UNAVDT-CI), called Stiching, Yao Pipira Dénis, during a press conference, Saturday February 19, 2022 in Abidjan Cocody Angré.

The Supreme Court of the Netherlands, emptying its referral ruled that the victims of toxic waste are indeed justified in making claims against Trafigura before the courts of this country. This decision follows the fact that the company appealed in cassation against the decision of the Court of Appeal of Amsterdam in favor of the victims in July 2020 by asking the Supreme Court to annul it. It now remains to determine the amount to be paid to each victim as well as their number at the end of another trial, the date of which will be set by the courts of the Netherlands.
