European equity markets are expected to open higher on Monday as investors await a hearing from European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde before the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. At 7:25 a.m., the CAC 40 futures contract gained 23 points, or 0.3%, according to data from broker IG Markets. The contract on the DAX 40 gained 48 points, or 0.3% also, and that on the FTSE 100 rose by 18 points, or 0.2%. The market will also follow industrial production figures in Germany on Monday, while the rest of the week will be mainly marked by inflation figures in the United States, due on Thursday.

Wall Street ended generally in the green on Friday, after a better than expected employment report, which supports the scenario of an imminent tightening of monetary policy by the Federal Reserve (Fed). The Dow Jones Index (DJIA) ended down less than 0.1%. The broader S&P 500 index gained 0.5% to 4,500.53 points. At the same time, the Nasdaq index, rich in technology stocks, rose 1.6% to 14,098.01 points. In Asia, the main stock exchanges presented a mixed picture on Monday. The Nikkei index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed down 0.7% and the Hang Seng index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange lost 0.4% at the end of the session. On the other hand, the Shanghai Composite index gained 2.1% for its first session after a week of closure for the Lunar New Year. The yield on ten-year US Treasury bonds fell to 1.903% on Monday morning, after rising as high as 1.930% on Friday. US sovereign debt rates climbed on Friday after the release of the US jobs report, which bolstered expectations of an imminent and sharp hike in Federal Reserve (Fed) interest rates.

The euro retreated against the dollar Monday morning, while central banks remain at the heart of market concerns.

Oil contracts are moving in scattered order on Monday morning. At 7:15 a.m., the April North Sea Brent contract was up 12 cents to $93.42 a barrel.
