The average weekly volume of transactions of all maturities on the WAEMU interbank market fell in October, according to the Monthly Statistics Bulletin of the Central Bank of West African States (Bceao).

       

According to the central bank, the average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, stood at 360.4 billion in October 2021, down 7.6% compared to the previous month. The document reveals that the weighted average rate fell from 2.62% in September 2021 to 2.53% during the month under review. As for the one-week compartment, the average volume of transactions increased by 10.1% over one month to stand at 246.0 billion in October 2021.

Furthermore, the results of the banking conditions survey indicate a slight decline in bank lending interest rates. The lending rate in the Union stood at 6.21% in October 2021, compared to 6.23% in the previous month. Term deposit interest rates stood at 5.29% in October 2021, up 10 basis points from September.
