The Fitch rating agency confirms the country's resilience to external shocks. From "B with positive outlook", Benin receives Benin's rating, to "B+ with stable outlook". The decision confirms the country's strong resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had already led the agency to raise Benin's rating outlook to "positive" in February 2021. Fitch notes that effective measures to respond to the pandemic and the reforms implemented by the government in recent years have helped to maintain the dynamism of the economy despite the crisis. It particularly welcomes the country's strong potential growth, the quality of the government's proactive economic policies and the stabilization of debt at a level well below that of countries with an equivalent rating. Fitch also forecasts a sharp rebound in activity in 2021 to +6.1%, supported in particular by targeted government spending to support the recovery, and the reopening of the border with Nigeria.
