Maritime security company Dryad Global announced on Monday, October 25, 2021 that pirates have struck again off the Niger Delta. They attacked the container ship MSC Lucia.

Double pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea! An MSC container ship was attacked in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria on Monday. This is the fifth pirate attack on ocean-going vessels in the country this year. Maritime security company Dryad Global, which confirmed the attack, said the MSC Lucia was boarded by an unknown number of attackers about 86 nautical miles southwest of the Agbami offshore oil terminal, located in about 70 nautical miles south-southwest of the Niger Delta. The container ship built in 1985 was en route from Lomé in Togo to Douala in Cameroon. Vessels transiting the area have been advised to exercise extreme caution. The MSC Lucia is a Panamanian-flagged container ship, measuring 189 meters in length and 1,951 TEUs, according to MSC's website. The ship was built in 1985.
