The British Royal Navy patrol ship HMS Trent sets sail for the Gulf of Guinea to undertake security patrols and a mission to support allies in West Africa
.The deployment of the first Royal Navy ship to operate in the region in three years is intended to demonstrate the United Kingdom's commitment alongside countries in the maritime zone. Once in the Gulf of Guinea, after a period of maintenance and crew rotation, the River-class patrol vessel will visit Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, The Gambia, and Cape Verde. He will participate in multinational training exercises led by France, known as the Grand African Nemo exercise. HMS Trent will also participate in the G7++ Friends of the Gulf of Guinea (FoGG) conference in Dakar, which the United Kingdom co-chairs with Senegal, the
host country.HMS Trent carries a Royal Marine contingent of 42 Commando aboard, who will train partner forces from across the region in skills such as boarding and searching for suspicious vessels, as well as evidence management and medical skills. The team is trained in arrest operations that will help fight illegal activities such as piracy, drug trafficking, and terrorism
