During the month of July 2021, the trade turnover index (Ica) in the Uemoa area improved, in monthly variation, with an increase of 3.5%.

The monthly note on the economic situation of the Bceao indicates that this increase took place after a rise of 3.2% a month earlier, in connection with the renewed dynamism of domestic demand due to the easing of restrictive measures. . The same source indicates that the improvement in activity in retail trade is mainly linked to that of sales of food products (+2.7 percentage points), pharmaceutical and cosmetic products (+1.1 point) and, to a lesser extent, petroleum products (+0.2 point). In detail, the improvement in sales of food products is mainly located in Benin (+42.9%) and Mali (+4.4%), sales of these products having fallen in the other countries of the Union , says the BCEAO. In addition, it indicates that with regard to pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, the most significant increases are noted in Senegal (+3.8%) and Mali (+3.7%).
