The money confiscated from the Equatorial Guinean Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue will finally be used to fight Covid-19 in Equatorial Guinea. The United States Department of Justice announces that the $26 million will soon be allocated to the government in the form of vaccines.

$26 million belonging to Equatoguinean Vice President Téodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue had been confiscated by the US. The statesman was involved in several corruption and embezzlement scandals. The American court accused Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue of having acquired $300 million in assets through corruption and money laundering in 2011. This money will be put at the disposal of the United Nations for “the purchase and distribution of vaccines against Covid-19” and the charitable organization Medical Care Development International (MCDI) for “the purchase and distribution of medicines and medical supplies”. The two organizations will receive $19.25 million and $6.35 million respectively
