The average weekly volume of operations, all maturities combined, stood at 461.9 billion in July 2021, down 6% compared to the previous month. These figures were revealed by the Bceao in its monthly statistics bulletin.

 

The Bceao informs that under the WAEMU interbank market, the weighted average rate came out at 2.67% during the month under review, against 2.59% the previous month and 3.01% in July 2020. Compared to the one-week segment, the average trading volume increased from €332.7 billion in June 2021 to €293.1 billion in July 2021. The average interest rate stood at 2.48% in July 2021, compared to 2.33% the previous month. Bank conditions indicate a stability in banks' lending rates during the month of July 2021 compared to the previous month. Excluding charges and taxes, the borrowing rate in the Union stood at 6.21% during the month under review. Deposit interest rates on term deposits stood at 5.23% in July 2021, compared to 5.37% the previous month.

During the month of July 2021, the business climate indicator remained above its long-term trend indicating a favourable opinion of business leaders on the evolution of the economy. It came out at 101.6, almost stable compared to the previous month. Activity indicators remained higher in the month under review, reflecting the continued recovery in economic activity. Thus, the index of turnover in commerce increased by 14.2%, over one year, in July 2021, after an increase of 17.5% the previous month. Similarly, the index of turnover in market services rose by 14.3% in the period under review, after an increase of 16.2% a month earlier. With regard to industrial production, the index rose by 8.9% year-on-year in the month under review, the same level as the previous month.
