US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Eric Meyer intends to assist the Democratic Republic of Congo in the implementation of  innovative initiatives, the fight against corruption and money laundering/finance.

The Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi exchanged with Eric Meyer on the fight against corruption and money laundering in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During this exchange by videoconference, Eric Meyer congratulated the Democratic Republic of Congo for the structural reforms already undertaken that produce tangible results in particular, the renewed relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which resulted in the extended credit facility of 1.5 billion USD to support economic growth and strengthen the country's reserves. Nicolas Kazadi expressed the country's ambition to improve the ratio of government revenues to Gross Domestic Product compared to the level of other countries in sub-Saharan Africa by exploiting the country's fiscal potential. The national treasurer announced another ongoing initiative to create a national financial institution dedicated to development, which has already received support from several bilateral and multilateral donors. The aim is to finance and implement development projects under the best conditions of coherence, efficiency and transparency. This institution, which could be a bank or a development agency, will help to strengthen the country's capacities in the long term.
