Reports from the Court of Accounts and the Auditor General, but also from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), had pinpointed overbilling and numerous anomalies in two cases dating back to 2014. Former Malian Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga, and former Minister of Economy and Finance Bouaré Fily Sissoko have been placed in prison. This raises mixed reactions from both sides.

There are those who encourage this transparency operation carried out by the Supreme Court, and those who denounce irregularities in the procedure, fearing instrumentalization. Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga and Bouaré Fily Sissoko have been caught up in two cases dating back to 2014: that of the purchase of the presidential plane of former president Ibrahim Boubakar Keïta, and that of military equipment contracts. Combined, the two cases amount to more than 130 billion CFA francs. Sory Ibrahima Traoré is among those who welcome the current operation. President of the Front pour l'émergence et le renouveau au Mali (Fer-Mali), an association created to support the transitional authorities. He "congratulates the Malian justice system" and speaks of a "courageous act" regarding the reopening of the file on the country's military equipment problem. This enthusiastic support is not shared by all observers. Brahima Konaté, deputy secretary general of the Malian Association for Human Rights (AMDH), remains wary of the law.
