The State of Senegal has just introduced a new 3% levy on the value of certain goods. Import-export players are not ready to see their sector of activity improve. According to the Director General of Customs, "this levy applies to goods of origin third to WAEMU and ECOWAS, declared for release for consumption under the ordinary law regime. The rate of this levy is 3%. Its base is the customs value of the goods released for consumption," he said in a statement. However, goods from the ECOWAS zone, WAEMU, gas products, rice, wheat, wheat flour, medicines and goods falling under Chapter 30 of the Harmonized System, are not affected by this levy.
