A "special meeting" devoted to the security of banking institutions will be held "very soon" in Kaolack (center), we learned from the governor of this region Alioune Badara Mbengue. Mr. Mbengue made the announcement Thursday on the occasion of the inauguration of the headquarters of the Orabank bank in Kaolack, a ceremony during which he assured the will of the public authorities to "always remain with the banking establishments concerned about security issues". The "special meeting" announced, the date of which is not specified, will notably bring together the actors of the sector and the police, under the aegis of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). ). It will aim "to eradicate the phenomenon of attacks recently recorded in the area" against banking establishments, according to the governor of Kaolack. "Ultimately we want to achieve zero attacks," said Alioune Badara Mbengue. "If there is an attack in Tambacounda, the whole system is blocked up to Kaolack and economic activity is affected", underlined the head of the regional executive of Kaolack, according to whom he returns to the State to ensure the safety of the populations, the private security agents being only "auxiliaries" of the forces of order. The governor insisted on the development opportunities in Kaolack, inviting Orabank officials to support the region in achieving the development objectives set by the authorities "at the highest level". So he invited the bankers to "support the growth of this region which has many companies and dynamic businessmen". The general manager of Orabank, Luc Morio, believes for his part that the choice of his establishment to set up in Kaolack after Dakar, Thiès, Touba and Saint-Louis-Louga, is explained by "the economic dynamism" of this region. He promised that his establishment will provide the localities neighboring the city of Kaolack with ATMs to support economic activity. According to him, "Orabank did not wait for its inauguration to start its activities and has already begun to finance local economic activity".
