The President of the Republic Faure Gnassingbé inaugurated the Blitta solar power plant on Tuesday. With a capacity of 50 MWp, this photovoltaic power plant consists of more than 5,000 solar panels.

Named Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant, the Blitta Solar Power Plant was built by AMEA Togo Solar, a subsidiary of AMEA Power. According to the Togolese authorities, it should generate about 90,255 MWh of energy per year, and serve energy to about 158,333 Togolese households, including 9% of the demand of the central region. The project was financed to the tune of 21 billion CFA francs by the West African Development Bank (BOAD), and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). Developer of the plant, AMEA power, a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investissement (ANI) based in the United Arab Emirates, will operate it for 25 years with the specifications, to contribute to the saving of one million tons of CO2 emissions expected on the platform throughout its lifetime.
