Bank accounts, safe deposit boxes, cash deposits and withdrawals, concealment of illegal assets... After seven years of proceedings, this man, whose identity is masked by a pseudonym, finally appeared before the Monegasque courts. The system was quite clever. This parallel money passed illegally between the Principality and the Italian Peninsula, thanks to widely distributed movements of funds and without notifying the authorities. The defendant gave a vague answer. “I have been working with transport activities since 1985. Between 2001 and 2002 I benefited from the tax amnesty offered by the Italian State if the money was brought back to
the country...”The money remained at its disposal and the money laundering mechanism did not show through. Already suspected in his country of origin, the restaurant owner hid large sums in Monegasque vaults. A fine of 300 euros with a suspended sentence is proposed. For the court, the offence is clearly characterized and the defendant is convicted. But he will stick to the recommendations of the Public Prosecutor's Office, with a suspended fine of 400 euros by default and without additional punishment
