The general price level increased in April 2021 in Benin. The national inflation rate stood at 2.0%. The Harmonized Consumer Price Index (Ihpc) within WAEMU has been on an upward trend in recent months. The general price level in Benin increased by 1.1% in April 2021 compared to March to stand at 104.3. In quarterly and annual variation, the level of the HICP increased by 1.9% and 0.5% respectively. The inflation rate at the national level in April 2021 is 2.0% against 2.3% a month earlier.

This increase is mainly attributable to the rise in the prices of "Food products and non-alcoholic beverages" (2.4%), "Clothing and footwear" (0.4%), "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (0.7%) and “Transport” (1.0%), specifies the document. Fresh products experienced inflation of 2.3%, energy products: 1.4%, and the least volatile products in the basket: 0.5%).
