It will affect 52 cities in 14 African countries including Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon... and Togo (the Municipalities of the Gulf 5, Ogou1, Tchaoudjo1). Access to drinking water and sanitation will be a daily challenge for thousands of urban residents, especially in sub-Saharan Africa where currently 565 million people do not have access to adequate sanitary facilities.
The objective of the “SAO-CWIS and Africap” project is to achieve access for all to sanitation systems. It will therefore achieve universal sanitation for the entire population of the targeted cities. The aim will be to identify the key actors in sanitation at the regional, national and municipal levels; clearly present the project in all its components and joints, its short and medium-term action plan, and the commitments of the parties involved.
The project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the BILL and MELINDA GATES Foundation, worth three million five hundred (3,500,000) US Dollars, or more than 1.5 billion CFA francs over the period 2019-2023, will strengthen operators' capacities and contribute to improving access to adequate sanitation services in targeted African cities.
