Driven out of Senegal after being caught in the act of fraud by Senegalese customs, Hapag Lloyd's ship docks at the port of Mauritania. Greenpeace fears that the latter will try to dump his cargo of plastic waste there.

According to Libération, the German shipping giant was carrying out a fraudulent action to bring 25 tons of plastic waste into Senegal. The illegal shipment of plastic waste was seized from the ship Hansa Neuburg. The company agreed to pay a fine of 2 billion CFA francs and re-export the products in question. Earlier this week, Greenpeace revealed how the UK and Germany dumped and burned plastic waste in Turkey. This debacle in West Africa illustrates even more clearly the systematic involvement of this same country in the dumping of plastic waste in marginalized countries.
