Seychelles strives to please international institutions (OECD and EU) while protecting the attractiveness of its offshore sector. The challenge is the introduction in May of a register of beneficiaries of offshore companies.

The Seychelles are in fact facing an onslaught from the European Union, the OECD and the FATF, which are calling for more transparency in the activities of their offshore sector (Africa Intelligence, 07/04/21). Thus, Seychellois trustees and their clients are required to carry out an inventory by May 1, to list the beneficiaries of companies domiciled in the archipelago.
On May 1, the trustees will therefore have the duty to transmit to the authorities the various documents relating to the governance and shareholding of the company, provided by its directors or shareholders. The Seychelles branch of the large manager Trident Trust thus advised its clients in April of the impending expiry. However, the government is trying to preserve their status as an offshore center concerned with the confidentiality of its customers (Africa Intelligence, 22/04/21).
