In an interview, the president of the National Union of Cotton Producers of Burkina (UNPCB), Bambou Bihoun, welcomes the government's efforts and invites producers to take up the expected challenge of 650 thousand tons.

A record purchase price of cotton seed of around 270 CFA per kilogram has been announced for the 2021-2022 campaign in Burkina Faso. For the past campaign, Bambou Bihoun indicates that the balance is positive. “Notwithstanding the double security and health crisis, good results have been achieved by producers with more than 492 thousand tons of cottonseed produced nationally. This is an increase of 7% compared to the 2019-2020 season, which recorded national production of the order of 460,114 tons,” he said

Thanking the government for its support, he invites each producer to massively plant cotton in order to change their social and economic situation in the coming months. “We are very proud of this and grateful to the government for providing a considerable subsidy... By the end of April, I had already ploughed 150 hectares. This first passage of tractors prepares the fields to receive final ploughing after a heavy rain, followed by planting... For the 2021-2022 campaign, I plan to plant 200 hectares of cotton,” he assured.
