The main European stock exchanges ended slightly lower on Monday after a calm session while waiting for several major meetings during the week. All eyes are on the first-quarter business earnings season.

Europe is ending down. In Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.13% to 6,161.68 points. The British Footsie gave up 0.39% and the German DAX dropped 0.13%. The EuroStoxx 50 index fell by 0.43%, the FTSeurofirst 300 by 0.38%, and the Stoxx 600 by 0.46%.
In Europe, the week will be animated by publications from LVMH, L'Oréal and Publicis. Corporate earnings releases will begin in earnest on Wednesday in the United States with JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Wells Fargo.
According to IBES data from Refinitiv, the profits of American S&P-500 companies are expected to have jumped by 25% in the first quarter over a year and those of the Stoxx 600 by 47.4%.
Wall Street indices lost 0.2% to 0.5% but the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones remained close to the records set on Friday.
