Illegal connections and unilateral manipulation of electrical networks have cost Côte d'Ivoire 40 billion CFA francs. The figures were unveiled on Friday, March 19, 2021, during an information and awareness meeting

The National Regulatory Authority for the Electricity Sector of Côte d'Ivoire (ANARE-CI) estimated the damage suffered by Côte d'Ivoire in 2019, mainly due to electricity fraud, at more than 40 billion CFA francs.
The head of the appeals department of ANARE-CI Yamoussoukro, Bessecon Achi, indicated that electrical fraud is punishable by law. The repressive system of administrative repression consists in the suspension of the supply of electricity and the calculation of a penalty, in particular the inspection penalty or the adjustment bill.
