The new ranking of the Global Financial Center Indices (GFCI) places Mauritius in 89th place. This report was published by think-tank Z/Yen in partnership with the City of London.

Mauritius fell sharply in the ranking of the Global Financial Center Indices (GFCI) made public on Wednesday. From 63rd position last year, the country fell to 89th place.
The report places Mauritius just behind St. Petersburg (88th), the third largest European city after Moscow and London and ahead of Johanesburg, a South African city that rivals Mauritius as the regional financial center par excellence.

Moreover, GFCI ranks New York as the world's leading financial center, with an index of 764. It is closely followed by the City of London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo, Shenzhen, Frankfurt and Zurich.
The study focuses on the one hand on quantitative determinants and on the other hand on assessments made from online surveys of professionals in the sector.
