Operations via electronic money accounts in the UEMOA zone recorded a decrease in volume and value as early as in the first half of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Half-Year Oversight Report on Payment Means and Services at the end of June 2020 by the Directorate General of Operations and Financial Inclusion of the Central Bank of West African States, intraregional transfers were down while the receipt of international funds in electronic money accounts increased.

The BCEAO report indicates that the volume of intraregional transfers amounted to 4.52 million transactions worth 228.68 billion CFA francs at the end of June 2020 compared to 6.72 million transactions valued at 313.74 billion CFA francs at the end of December 2019.
