The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will disburse $50 million to support Sierra Leone's balance of payments and budgetary needs. Despite an expected recovery this year, the country is continuing to implement its economic recovery plan to respond to the imbalances caused by the pandemic

.

The support of the IMF is part of a rapid credit facility (FCR). According to the institution, these funds aim to help the State meet its balance of payments and budget needs.

“Sierra Leone is struggling with the severe and continuing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. While immediate health risks seem contained, 2021 will be another difficult year. The economic and social impact is likely to be prolonged, exacerbating long-standing development problems and the strained financial situation,” said Tao Zhang, deputy director general of the institution.
According to the Bretton Woods institution, the new emergency funding will “ensure that the authorities can maintain their response and recovery efforts
