Côte d'Ivoire wants to sign its return to the international level with CI 123 and CI 128, its two new cotton varieties. The Interprofessional Agricultural Organization of the Cotton Sector has announced the forthcoming introduction of two new varieties, namely CI 123 and CI 128. These two new varieties aim to boost the quality of cotton produced in Côte d'Ivoire. The information was delivered by Touré Jean François, Vice President of Intercoton, this Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Abidjan.
“In recent years, international customers have drawn our attention to the loss of certain characteristics that made our fiber one of the best in the sub-region. “he justifies

For Touré Jean François, who is also president of the Association of Cotton Societies of Côte d'Ivoire, “the National Agricultural Research Center reassured that the concerns of cotton companies and those of international traders have been taken into account. The CI 123 and the CI 128 meet market needs and should allow Côte d'Ivoire to reposition itself internationally.”

This result is, in part, achieved thanks to the support of the State to the sector and the support of development partners. This was far from being a winning bet after a year 2002 that almost brought the industry to its knees and even threatened with extinction with an estimated production of less than 120,000 tons
