After hitting a one-month high, the US currency reacted shortly after a parliamentary hearing by US Central Bank (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell. Thus, the euro stabilized against the dollar on Tuesday. Around 8:00 p.m. GMT (9:00 p.m. in Paris), the euro lost 0.12% against the dollar, at 1.2143 dollars for one euro, after having reached a peak in one month around 7:45 a.m. GMT, at 1.2180 dollars. The dollar index, which compares the greenback to a basket of other major currencies, rose slightly (+0.16%). Jerome Powell reassures that the Fed would keep its rates low as long as inflation did not permanently exceed 2% in the United States and the American economy was not close to full employment. For its part, the British pound evolved, at its highest in almost three years against the greenback, at 1.4106 dollars (+0.31%), after a peak at 1.4117 dollars. Against the euro, the pound sterling gained 0.42% to 86.08 pence, its highest in almost a year.
