Conversely, Ghana is bearing the brunt of the setbacks of the changes brought about by Brexit.
Ghana was unable to quickly ratify the economic partnership agreement with the United Kingdom after Brexit. On the side of Côte d'Ivoire, the free trade agreement with the United Kingdom has been reconfigured and the Ivorian government announces the start of the two phases of the dismantling of tariffs with the United Kingdom (Great Britain and Ireland North) as an extension of the economic partnership agreement with Europe.
2,305 tariff lines are affected by this new partnership agreement configuration which eliminates customs charges between the two parties. "The Council adopted an ordinance implementing the first and second phases of tariff dismantling under the Economic Partnership Agreement between Côte d'Ivoire and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well than its ratification bill,” notes Minister Sidi Téoko Touré, government spokesperson.
For its part, Ghana is already suffering the consequences of the non-ratification of the Economic Partnership Agreement. Ghanaian growers say UK companies have started rejecting imports from Ghana. More than 20% of banana exports were blocked during the process.
