The former Director of Studies, Strategy and Market Development of the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM), Birahim Diouf has been appointed Deputy Director General of the Central Depository / Settlement Bank (DC / BR) of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) “with immediate effect”, announced this institution in a press release sent to APA on Friday.

“The Deputy Director General will assist the Director General in the operational, financial and development management of the DC/BR. To this end, he will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring the management of all the departments or directorates attached to him, ”explains the press release.

This appointment of Mr. Diouf to this position, underlines the DC/BR, “is in line with the new strategic orientations” of this central structure of the WAEMU regional financial market.

Formerly director of the research, strategy and market development department of the BRVM and DC/BR (2015-2020) and former director of research, strategy and market development (2012-2015), M Birahim Diouf has thirty years of experience in the financial sector and in particular, capital markets and investment banking.

Mr. Diouf holds an MBA from the Sorbonne Graduate School of Business, an Executive MBA from the Institut Français de Gestion, a Master's degree in Economics from Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne, a postgraduate degree in Islamic Finance from the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (IIBI) in London and a Masters in Applied Economics from Paris IX Dauphine.

The Central Depository/Bank of Settlement (DC/BR) is the central depositary of WAEMU securities. It ensures the centralization of the custody of securities for its members, the successful completion of settlement/delivery operations following stock market transactions as well as the payment of security events. It also ensures the codification of transferable securities in the WAEMU.
