Greece entrusts the certification of its cotton to Better Cotton. 5,000 Greek producers are expected to display the label. The organization aims to make life easier for cotton farmers by awarding a label based on specific criteria related to the use of pesticides, environmental awareness and control of working conditions.
This is the first time that the organization has promoted a more sustainable cotton culture.
Greece is the first cotton producing country in Europe. A continent that records only 1% of world production. The Greek certification will offer European brands the opportunity to work and communicate on a "made in Europe" cotton certified BCI.
Europe, it should be remembered, is the continent that consumes the most cotton after Asia Pacific and North America, with Spain, Russia, France and Germany being the most demanding.
