Abidjan, 27th Nov, 2020 (AIP) - The Fairtrade West Africa network has held its annual congress virtually, bringing together 120 delegates representing organizations of Fairtrade certified producers in West Africa and Cameroon, reports a statement sent to Abidjan. 'AIP.

The regional congress was organized to take stock of the year's activities and to discuss issues of concern for the growth and strengthening of producer organizations, the document states.

Held on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, this congress was an opportunity for producers to democratically elect delegates to the Fairtrade Africa general assembly and nominate candidates for the African council, which are the two highest decision-making bodies. of Fairtrade Africa.

Two representatives from Côte d'Ivoire and a representative from Ghana were elected, namely Hubert Adou, Julien Adon and Anthony Buah representing the cooperatives COODIG, SCAGA and the Ayinase coconut company respectively.

Subsequently, the 2021-2025 strategic plan was presented to the participants. This plan outlines the roadmap to address key challenges such as market access, climate change, disruptive technologies, and organizational strengthening of farmer cooperatives and hired worker organizations.

For his part, the new Executive Director of Fairtrade Africa, Dr. Argent Chuula, reiterated the organization's commitment to continue its mission of empowering farmers and workers.

Fairtrade Africa, West Africa Network, is one of four member organizations of Fairtrade International, working with producers in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and recently in Cameroon.
