Senegal's industrial activity recorded a 6.3% drop in production last August, compared to the previous month, the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) said.

This result stems from the underperformance observed in the chemical, food, building materials industries and in the paper and cardboard industries, underlines the structure in its note on the evolution of industrial production.

However, it points out that the upturn in activity in the mechanical, extractive and energy production industries has mitigated the decline in industrial production.

Compared to August 2019, industrial production also fell by 6.2% while over the first eight months of 2020, it increased by 0.1% compared to that of the corresponding period of 2019, according to the same source.
