On Thursday, October 1, 'Choco Togo' (one of the first and main chocolate brands in Togo) was in the spotlight during the celebration of the 7th World Cocoa and Chocolate Day. The day was marked in Lomé by a 'Choco Togo' show at the Awep Foodies 228 power plant in the

Cacavéli market.

The celebration of World Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2020 also marked the effective start of the “local consumption month” initiated by the Ministry of Commerce. This is due to the fact that many cocoa farmers have never tasted chocolate, even though it is a food with multiple benefits. In the West, you would meet a winemaker who does not consume wine. This is the dorsal motivation of Komi Agbokou (CEO of 'Choco Togo') who decided to launch the processing and consumption of cocoa-derived products via “Choco Togo

”.

The “Awep Foodies 228” power plant, which hosted this annual event, specializes in promoting products from Togolese women's businesses. It sells agri-food and cosmetic products. It is a real showcase and a springboard for strengthening the presence of women on the economic front in Togo. The theme of the Togolese version of the 2020 celebration of the 7th World Cocoa and Chocolate Day is an illustration of this: “Togolese women, an engine

of national economic growth”.

Since September 6, 2018, Adjoavi Codjo, director of the above-mentioned Power Plant, has been doing everything possible to raise the torch of the economic emergence of Togolese women and encourage the consumption of Togolese products, a guarantee of concerted development and physical health.

In the same register of local consumption, a group of journalists grouped within the 'Move with the 228' movement is making a name for itself in a media offensive to promote local products through e-shops.
Development experts remain convinced that Africa's economic emergence depends on the local processing of its products and the promotion of local consumption. Some countries have understood this policy and included it in their development strategies. In Togo, the Ministry in charge of Trade and Private Sector Development places particular emphasis on entrepreneurship and the consumption of products 'made in Togo'. He has just decided to dedicate the month of October 2020 to “local consumption”.

This initiative by Minister Kodzo Adedze is a state boost to the actions of some citizens who have embarked on the path of local processing of products formerly intended for export such as cotton, coffee and cocoa.
