The pan-African banking group, Ecobank has won the Innovation Trophy in financial services at the 2020 edition of the prestigious African Banker Magazine Awards. This was reported in a press release from the group released this Saturday in Lomé (Togo)
The awards, which recognize excellence in African banking, were announced at a virtual ceremony that took place on August 26. The African Banker Financial Services Innovation Award aims to recognize African banks that have demonstrated original and practical use of technology to provide their customers with more convenient, improved and affordable services as well as better access to the financial services sector in Africa.

“This is official recognition of our pioneering role in harnessing technology to maximize our pan-African presence and partnerships, to deliver accessible, convenient, affordable and innovative banking products that make a difference for millions of people. and businesses across sub-Saharan Africa,” said Ade Ayeyemi, Group Managing Director.
“Five years ago, we embarked on a digital transformation to evolve our banking products and services. This distinction attests to the success of this project and we are delighted that our significant investment in technology is yielding the expected results,” he added.
“Building on our strong pan-African digital banking platform, our unique banking model offers a variety of products and services to governments and large corporates using our digital platforms, including Ecobank Omni Plus, SMEs and Commercial Banking customers. through Ecobank Omni Lite, as well as individuals through our Ecobank Mobile app and Ecobank Online. These are in addition to highly effective cash management solutions, transaction banking and our international money transfer solution Rapidtransfer,” he said.

Ecobank also won the 2020 awards for Most Innovative Bank in Africa, Best Bank for Payments and Collections, Best Integrated Corporate Banking Site in Africa (Global Finance) and Best Bank for corporate social responsibility (Euromoney Awards for Excellence).
Founded in 1985 in Togo, Ecobank has subsidiaries in 36 countries in Africa, mainly in the West of the continent.

It employs some 20,000 people and has 11 million customers. Qatar National Bank and Nedbank (South Africa) are shareholders of Ecobank.
It is the second largest bank in Africa, behind the South African bank Standard Bank.
