The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is looking for consultants to set up a program to strengthen the electricity grid infrastructure within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

To this end, the entity has issued a call for proposals, as part of this initiative aimed at achieving better inclusion of renewable energy sources in the energy mix of the sub-region. Note that ECOWAS currently has an installed capacity of 16 GW, mainly made up of thermal (68%) and hydroelectricity (32%), according to IRENA.

The actors who will be selected, at the end of this call, will collaborate closely with the electricity companies, the national regulators and the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of the Community. Their mission will be to develop the best solutions from the technical and economic points of view, in order to increase the potential of solar and wind power in the area.

A part of the mandate will also be devoted to building the capacities of national skills. At the Togolese level, this should notably contribute to the national electrification strategy, aiming to reach 50% of the share of renewables in the energy mix, by 2030.

Consult the call for proposals here.

Deadline for submitting applications: August 31, 2020.
