The government statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, told journalists at yesterday's meeting on Wednesday that after the sharp price increases between March and June, the monthly inflation rate of 0.5% seems to indicate that prices are rising again to pre-Covid-19 levels.
He said that food inflation was 13.7%, while non-food inflation was 9.7%. According to him, vegetables have recorded a noticeable month-to-month variation and are fuelling food inflation year-on-year.
Prof. Annim said that with the exception of fuel, most product categories showed monthly inflation rates comparable to those in the October 2019 to March 2020 period.
He added that only two of the 13 divisions have higher than average inflation rates; housing, water, electricity and gas (20.3%) and food and non-alcoholic beverages 13.17%.
