A team made up of agents from the Institute for Technical Advice and Support (ICAT) and the Coffee-Cocoa Technical Unit (UTCC) has been on tour since the beginning of the week, on the coffee and cocoa plantation sites in the region. plateaus, notably Lavié, Kpélé and Danyi.

The mission aims to assess the impact of the support of the Agricultural Sector Support Project (PASA), financed by the World Bank , in the establishment of professional nursery cooperatives, started in 2019.

To date "we are at more than 3 million rooted cuttings distributed to producers, to build nurseries and regenerate old plantations to create new plantations", informs Batoefetou Madjoulba, Director of the UTCC.

In the process, "we also distributed nearly 400,000 cocoa pods, today we are at more than 40,000 hectares of coffee trees (old plantations regenerated and new plantations created), and more than 26,000 hectares for cocoa trees (old plantations regenerated and new plantations created)”.

A dynamic which, according to the head of the Technical Institute, “has had a positive effect on national production”.

As a reminder, coffee-cocoa, an agricultural export product, contributes about 1.2% of the Togolese Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and employs some 32,000 national producers.
