As part of the fight against cybercrime, Côte d'Ivoire has decided to join the Budapest Convention. The announcement was made on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, by government spokesman Sidi Touré.

"Côte d'Ivoire's accession to the Budapest Convention demonstrates its strong involvement in the fight against cybercrime and its commitment to international cooperation in the field of cybersecurity", Minister Sidi Touré explained to the from the Council of Ministers.

According to the emissary of the Ivorian government, this Convention is a legal instrument aimed at harmonizing national criminal legislation while providing the powers necessary for the investigation and prosecution of offenses committed by means of a computer system.

“The Budapest Convention on cybercrime responds to the strong desire of States to implement a common criminal policy intended to protect populations against crime in cyberspace,” concluded the government spokesperson.
