attributions, organization and operation of the Fund for the Electricity for All Program (PEPT Fund)
presented by the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies, Abdourahmane Cissé, was
adopted Monday in Yamoussoukro, unanimously by the members of the Commission for Economic Affairs and
finances of the Senate.
This ordinance aims on the one hand to offer a reassuring legal framework to institutional donors
such as the European Union (EU), World Bank (WB), African Development Bank (AfDB) and
the French Development Agency (AFD) but also to enable low-income social strata
income from access to electricity.
The Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies took this opportunity to take stock
on the government's activities in the energy sector, reports an information note sent to
APA.
According to him, the number of electrified localities has doubled in 8 and a half years with a coverage rate that is
increased from 33% in 2011 to 71% at the end of March 2020.
"More specifically, today we have 6,045 electrified localities in Côte d'Ivoire compared to 2,818 localities
electrified in 2011. The objective is to reach 100% in 2025”, he explained.
As for electricity subscribers, Minister Cissé indicated that the number rose from one million in 2011 to
more than 2.5 million at the end of March 2020. He also specified that 803,000 subscribers (i.e. around 5 million
inhabitants) among them benefited from the PEPT which is a program covering the payment of the cost of
connection over about 10 years.
