This envelope is intended for the financing of the first phase of the Project for the reinforcement of the works of the electrical system and access to electricity called "PROSER I".
The implementation of the four-year project will enable the connection to the electricity grid of 1,388 localities, 1,039 of which have less than 500 inhabitants and have not hitherto been affected by the first operations financed by the Bank and other development partners.
The electrification of 1,388 localities under this project should bring the national coverage rate to 100%. These localities are distributed in the 11 districts namely Comoé, Denguelé, Lakes, Lagoons, Mountains, Sassandra, Woroba, Savanes, Vallée du Bandama, Yamoussoukro and Zanzan.
In total, nearly 797,000 inhabitants will benefit from it. In addition, it is planned to provide access to electricity to nearly 114,000 households under the social conditions of the Electricity for All Program (PEPT) in Côte d'Ivoire.
PROSER I comes on top of the 37 projects in the AfDB portfolio in Côte d'Ivoire for a total commitment of 2.1 billion euros. This portfolio is dominated by transport and energy infrastructure, which accounted for 72% of commitments as of January 31, 2020.
