Dakar, Jan 20 (APS) – Senegal's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.4% in 2018, after growing by 7.4% the previous year, we learned from Dakar. National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).

''Despite the deceleration recorded in 2018, economic activity remains vigorous in Senegal: the real gross domestic product increased by 6.4%, after +7.4% in 2017'', indicates the structure in the Provisional national accounts for 2018, released on Monday.

“This performance took place in a context of a 0.5% drop in the general price level, after an appreciation of 0.6% in 2017”, underlines the document consulted by the APS.

The ANSD notably reports increases in volume of final consumption and gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), respectively of 4.2% and 8.4% in 2018, against 4.7% and 15.4% in 2017.

At the same time, exports and imports increased, respectively, by 9.6% and 7.6% in 2018, while in value terms, the foreign trade balance deteriorated in the same year, the report notes. also devoted to the final accounts for 2018.

The ANSD noted a continued dynamism in domestic household savings, the rate of which reached 17.1% in 2018, after 16% in 2017.
