A training seminar was organized on the theme "Contribution of civil society in the fight against crimes committed at sea: Cases of armed robbery, maritime piracy, marine pollution and illicit trafficking", for the attention of 30 civil society actors from ECOWAS member states and Mauritania.

This initiative of the Interregional Maritime Safety Institute (ISMI) is part of the ECOWAS Integrated Maritime Strategy.The European Union (EU) has decided to finance it under the SWAIMS project ("Support to Integrated Maritime Security in West Africa"). The objective of this program is to build the capacity of ECOWAS nationals in maritime security and safety.

This training is supported by the European Union and the SWAIMS project team based in Abuja and Abidjan, including the expert in charge of the private sector and civil society. Aimed at national civil society organizations.
